How was Abu Bakr Radiyallahu anhu elected as the first Caliph?
The companions whom Abu Bakr nominated refused to become the Caliph and said “Abu Bakr is the best among all of us because Allah has mentioned him in the Quran, saying “The one amongst two in the cave.” ‘Umar and Zaid bin Thabit then took the pledge of loyalty, followed by others present in the meeting. The next day, a general pledge of loyalty was taken by the Muslims in Masjid an Nabawi.
