Absorption By Roots Flashcards
Define imbibition
Inbibition is the process of absorption of water by substances like wood and seed through their surface which swell up or increase in volume after this movement
Define diffusion
Diffusion is the movement of water molecule from their region of higher concentration to their region of lower concentration till the concentration becomes the same throughout
Define diffusion pressure
It is the pressure exerted by particles diffusing it is also directly proportional to it’s concentration higher the concentration greater the the diffusion pressure
Define osmosis
It is the movement of water molecule from its region of higher concentration to its region of lower concentration through a semipermeable membrane
Define tonicity
The amount of tension developed in a system on the account of solute particles on it
Define turgidity
A cell when reaches a state where it cannot accommodate anymore water when kept in hypotonic solution is called turgidity
Define osmotic pressure
Osmotic pressure is that pressure which would be required to prevent it from gaming more solvent molecules if it is separated from solvent by semipermeable membrane
Define turgidity
When a cell reaches a state where it cannot accommodate anymore water when kept in a hypotonic solution it is called tergudity
Define turgar pressure
The hydrostatic pressure developed inside a cell on the cell wall due to endosmosis is called turgor pressure download
Define endosmosis
Diffusion of water into cells
Define exosmosis
Diffusion of water out of the cells
Define a flacid state
A condition in which the cell contents are shrunken and not fully turgid
Define adhesion
The force that causes water to stick to the surface of the cell
Define plasmolysis
10 linkage of the cytoplasm along with the plasma membrane from the cell wall under the action of hypertonic solution is called plasmalysis
Importance of plasmalysis
It helps in determining the Osmotic pressure of the cell and that whether a particular cell is dead or Living it true spermeable nature of the cell wall and semi permeable nature of the plasma membrane
