Absolute Volume Flashcards
Absolute Density:
Mass per unit volume. (Without air)
Absolute Volume
The volume per unit mass.
The reciprocal of absolute density expressed as volume per unit mass. (No air)
Bulk Density
The weight per unit volume of a dry material containing entrained air
Bulk Volume
The volume per unit mass of a dry material plus the volume of the air between its particles. Changes with amount of air and size of particles
Base Fluid
The fluid that will be used to mix with the cement and additives Fresh Water, Sea Water, Brackish Water, or Brine
Mix Water
Base fluid plus any salt (D044, S001 or M117) added “wet” AND in a concentration expressed in %BWOW.
Mix Fluid
Sum of the base fluid, all liquid additives and any solid additives added “wet.”
Slurry Yield
The volume of slurry obtained when one sack of cement is mixed with the desired amount of water and other additives
If water/solids ratio is not correct, the slurry may have
- High viscosity (un-pumpable slurry)
- Excessive free fluid (severe settling)
Lower Density
More Water & Extender Add lighweight material
Higher density
Less Water & Dispersant Heavyweight Material
What component of a slurry if change the ratio, cause the major effect
Changing the water/cement ratio has the most dramatic effect
