What is the Absolute Monarch and how long did it last?
The Absolute Monarch is a king or queen with unlimited power and absolute control over their country and people. It lasted 2 years from 1500 to 1700s.
What’s the Divine Right Theory?
The idea that kings and queens got their power from God. God choose them to rule and disobeying the ruler is like disobeying God.
Who were the Tudors and how long did they rule?
Rulers of England from 1485 to 1603.
Who was the first ruler of the Tudors and who was the last?
It started with King Henry the 8th and ended with the death of Queen Elizabeth the First -with no heir, the power went to her cousin, James the First-
Who were the Stuarts and how long did they rule?
Replaced the Tudors after Queen Elizabeth’s death. They ruled England from 1603 to 1714.
Who were the Bourbons and how long did they rule?
Rulers of France from 1276 to 1789. They also ruled Spain from 1714-1931
Who were the Romanovs and how long did they rule?
Rulers of Russia from 1613-1917.
(It’s like Natasha Romanoff’s except instead of Russia she’s from the soviet union. Same thing though.)
Who established the Romanovs?
Ivan the Terrible. (They lived in luxury while the rest of Russia live in poverty.)
Who were the Hapsburgs and how long did they rule?
Ruled many parts of Europe such as Austria and parts of Spain from 1273 to 1918.
Who were King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella and how long did they rule?
Ruled Spain during the 1400s. They founded Columbus’ voyages to the New World.
Who was Philip II and how long did he rule?
Ruled Spain from 1556 to 1598. Big catholic. Assembled the Spanish Armada to invade England. (For the catholic church) During this 130 Spanish ships were defeated by the 66 smaller English ships and a storm.
Who was Elizabeth I and how long did she rule?
Ruled England during the Spanish Armada. Her reign was known as England’s “Golden Age”. She helped grow power and grow culture. (Spread of nationalism, expansion, naval triumph and saw the writing of Shakespeare, resulting in growth of theaters and literature)
Who was Charles I and how long did he rule?
Ruler of England, son of James l (Elizabeth’s cousin). Ruled from the death of his father until his death in 1625.
What was Charles I’s issue with the Parliament?
Charles is in constant battles with the Parliament because they rejected his requests for more war funds. Charles was executed by Parliament in 1649 ending his rule.
Who was Charles II?
He was Charles I’s son. Unlike his father, he worked well with the Parliament. However, his youngest brother, James II battled with the parliament constantly just like Charles I.
