role of royal scots dragoon guards
The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards is a light cavalry regiment that specialises in reconnaissance. It uses light vehicles such as the Jackal 2 and the Coyote tactical support vehicle to operate in front of their comrades, monitoring enemy forces and sending information back to commanders.
Soldiers in the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards also use a formidable arsenal of weapons, including machine guns, mortars, sniper rifles and anti-tank missiles, to immobilise and destroy enemy forces.
Off the battlefield, the regiment takes part in ceremonial duties, including a prominent role in the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

why do you want to join the uni air squadron
i want to experience the closest thing i can get to a career in the RAF. im inspired by this idea of service and comraderie.
I want my time at university to be one of growth, where im constantly pushing new limits, and the air squadron offers such an incredible range of opportunities to do that, not just with the flying training but also the other pursuits, like outdoor adventure pursuits.
naturally being able to learn to fly is a huge draw for me.

What challenges might you face
Learning to fly is challenging to some degree
for everyone and requires diligent preparation
and ongoing determination.
Im sure there will
be aspects that will challenge me.
Challenging physical activities such as sailing,
rock climbing etc will also require much effort
but Im very excited about these opportunities.
A medical degree is very challenging and
success there will be my no 1 priority but I will
carefully manage my time to maintain my
commitments to the UAS.
What duties might you be expected to perform
Attendance at training nights, annual camps eg field training at cranwell, and flying camp at leuchars, ceremnonial parade for rememberance sunday
specialist courses, physical training, flight
training including groundschool.
Other duties
as directed by a senior officer? Charitable
work? Air cadets?
What aircraft do we operate
The UAS operates the Grob Tutor T1
It is constructed with carbon composite
materials, tricycle undercarriage (with the
nosewheel at front like wheelbarrow) and a 3
blade variable pitch propellor and a
180horsepower engine. It is used for RAF
Elementary Flying Training (EFT).
It is gradually being replaved with the Grob
Prefect.
