About Me Flashcards
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
If the PM career has 2 paths:
- independent excellence in PM
- PM leadership/management
I prefer the first
What will you do on your first 3 weeks
- on the first week I’ll connect with my team and direct stakeholders to build relationships. I try to always have one-on-ones with everyone to get to know them and for them to get to know me. And I’ll join any existing meeting. Etc
- the next week I’ll dive into the business/product challenges and priorities
- and on the next one I hope I can show some value. I’ll try to tackle/manage something that will move the needle in the right direction
What’s your PM style? How do you like to work?
I like to work in collaboration. I like to be the guardian of the problem or the outcome needed and then have everyone collaborate on ideas for achieving it.
This way you use the brain power of everyone and everyone gets more motivated.
What aspects of product management do you find most exciting?
It’s unpredictable, no two days are the same, you have to talk and collaborate with a lot of people and it never gets boring.
What aspects of product management do you find the least interesting?
Reporting and documentation. What I try to do is to see those as product on themselves, and the users are their readers. Then I get more excited about them
One thing that you have learned recently
I’ve been learning how to work remotely, for unfortunate reasons.
I’ve learn that work wise it can be great, meetings are surprisingly smooth, asynchronous communication as well, and it’s good not to be interrupted all the time.
But I’ve also learnt that some other things are harder. You need to create an artificial enforcement of the work/life boundaries. And you need to make space for having leisure time with your team also, which might not be intuitive when you are away. Fortunately I’ve also learnt that it is possible to even become friends with your colleagues when you are working remotely.
