Ableton: shift+”Arrangement Record Button” (at the top)
Records an arrangement into the arrangement view as you play it live in session view
Ableton: little orange button lights up
to tell you that what you are hearing as you play around in session view is not what is written into arrangement view. clicking it will play the arrangement.
Ableton: “return tracks”
process audio sent to them from multiple tracks
Ableton: ReWire applications
this is how you daisy chain Live with another application (like Reason) so they play in sync. Live can be a ReWire Host or Device
Ableton: recording audio
arm individual tracks with their little record buttons then hit arrangement record up top
Ableton: ⌘T
create new audio track
Ableton: To record to multiple tracks
⌘-click the respective arm buttons, set different input signals to each (only useful with multiple separate signals like a band)
Ableton: to punch in
set the loop braces up top, then activate the punch in and out buttons up top around the loop button
Ableton: to make several attempts to record a section
activate the loop button with loop braces set and punch in/out on, then you can unroll with undos when satisfied
Ableton: when you load an impulse instrument into a midi track, these keys on a midi keyboard will play the intrument

Ableton: to create an empty midi track
double click on any empty cell in session view on that track, but not on the record circle
Ableton: “Record Quantization” lives in this menu
The Edit menu contains the record quantization dropdown
Ableton: “Session record button” (vs Arrangement record)
overdubs on armed tracks. While playing, click again to toggle off and practice a new pattern until you’re ready to record it, then click again.
Ableton: ⌘B
Toggle “Draw Mode” to activate the pencil (next to the keyboard button upper right), so you can draw midi notes
Ableton: To change grid density of notes in the note editor
CTRL-click anywhere in the MIDI note grid and select note fractions
