Describe the steps of an ABI?
A
- Raise issue of alcohol
- Screening and feedback - how much, what the situation is etc
- Are they ready to change? (need to understand the importance and have confidence, assess with readiness to change questionaire).
- Select an approach (are they physically dependent?)

Describe the FAST alcohol screening tool?
A
Questions - it is an abbreviated version of AUDIT
- How many times have you had 6+ units in one sitting over the last year? (Never, less than monthly, monthly, weekly, almost daily)
- How often have you failed to do what was expected of you due to alcohol? (“ “)
- How ofter have you been unable to remember due to alcohol? (“ “)
- Has a relative, friend or doctor ever been concerned about your health or drinking? (No, Yes but not in the last year, Yes - in the last year).

- Precontemplation - give info and advice.
- Contemplation - try enhance their motivation.
- Prep - Give menu of options.
- Action - Build confidence.
- Maintencence - coping strategies.
- Relapse - What happened, why, and how can we change it?
