Describe the steps of an ABI?

A
  1. Raise issue of alcohol
  2. Screening and feedback - how much, what the situation is etc
  3. Are they ready to change? (need to understand the importance and have confidence, assess with readiness to change questionaire).
  4. Select an approach (are they physically dependent?)

Describe the FAST alcohol screening tool?

A

Questions - it is an abbreviated version of AUDIT

  1. How many times have you had 6+ units in one sitting over the last year? (Never, less than monthly, monthly, weekly, almost daily)
  2. How often have you failed to do what was expected of you due to alcohol? (“ “)
  3. How ofter have you been unable to remember due to alcohol? (“ “)
  4. Has a relative, friend or doctor ever been concerned about your health or drinking? (No, Yes but not in the last year, Yes - in the last year).
