ABGs Flashcards
pH
7.35-7.45
Elevations indicated alkalosis
Decreased values indicate acidosis
PaO2
80-100 mm Hg
PaCO2
35-45 mm Hg
HCO3
21-28 mEq/L
SpO2 saturation
95%-100%
Respiratory Acidosis (too much carbonic acid)
Headache, decreased LOC, hypoventilation (cause of issue), cardiac dysrhythmias, hypotension
Metabolic Acidosis (too much metabolic acid)
Decreased LOC, hyperventilation, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, cardiac dysrhythmias
Respiratory Alkalosis (too little carbonic acid)
Excitation and belligerence, lightheadedness, unusual behaviors, followed by decreased LOC if severe, personal and digital paresthesias, carpopedal spasm, tetany, diaphoresis, hyperventilation, cardiac dysrhythmias
Metabolic Alkalosis (too little metabolic acid)
Excitation followed by decreased LOC if severe, personal and digital paresthesias, carpopedal spasm, hypoventilation, signs of volume depletion and hypokalemia
