abdominal pain Flashcards
Gall bladder
pear shaped sac, 30-50 ml
located in the fossa on the inferior surface of the liver
3 main anatomic areas
Blood supply- cystic artery (triangle of calot)
venous drainage- small veins enter directly to the liver
Lymphatic- nodes at the neck of GB
gall bladder anatomy
fundus- may be palpated, in angle between lateral border of right rectus abdominis and costal margin, at level of elbow, most anterior visceral structure
Body- visceral surface of liver, deep to transvers colon or hepatic flexure of colon, descending portion of duodenum is medial
Neck- continuous with cystic duct, characterized by a spiral valve (of heister)
Spiral valve of Heister- makes endoscopic cannulation or catheterization extremely difficulty
Extra hepatic biliary tree
common bile duct 10-15 cm long, diameter is 1-2 mm adn no more than 6mm
Courses through lesser omentum, deep to pyloric sphincter
Combines with pancreatic duct to empty into duodenum at ampulla of vater
sphincter of oddi guards duct, regulates bile flow
