Abdominal exam
A
- Inspect
- Ausculate (NL bowel sounds 5-34 clicks/min)
- Percuss: typamic throughout
- Palpate (superficial=> moderate => deep); asscess for rebound/guarding

Special tests:

- Heel strike => appendicits
- Lloyds punch => kidney
- Fluid wave = > pt places hand midline while doc taps on both sides to see if fluid wave is noted.

HEart exam
A
- Inspect: NL chest shape, no flushing, cyanosis, bruising; radial pulses for 15 seconds, carotid pulse for 15 seconds) +2/4 peripheral pulses, cap refill is less than 2 seconds, pitting edema: +0/4
- Palpate: PMI (point of maximal impulse) at the 4th or 5th intercostal splace at the mid-clavicular line; palpate for thrill. NL = should be SMALL AND BRISK!!!!! DO THIS LAYING DOWN
- Percuss. IF PMI IF SMALL AND BRISK => DO NOT PERCUSS

Heart special test
A
Allen test: occlude both arteries while the patient makes a fist, have pt open and close the fist. palm should be pale
- Release pressure on ulnar artery and observe for color return to hand within 5-10 seconds. reet with radial artery
