Abdominal Aorta (295-306) Flashcards
At what level does the abdominal aorta bifurcate?;
L4
Name the anterior unpaired branches of the abdominal aorta;
Coeliac, SMA, IMA, Medial sacral
Name the paired branches of the abdominal aorta;
Inferior phrenic, middle suprarenal (adrenal), renal, lumbar, gonadal
What is meant by Leriche syndrome?;
Aortoiliac occulsive dieseae. Complete occlusion of the aorta distal to the renal arteries. Presents with 6Ps (Pain, Pulselessness, Pallor, Paresthesia, Paralysis and Poikilothermia (cold)) and erectile dysfunction.
At what vertebral level does the coeliac trunk arise?;
T12/L1
Name the major branches of the coeliac trunk;
Common hepatic, left gastric, splenic
Name the branches of superior mesenteric artery;
Inferior pancreaticoduodenal artery, jejunal and ileal arteries, ileocolic, right colic, middle colic.
What is meant by superior mesenteric artery syndrome?;
Compression of duodenum (3rd part) by SMA and aorta
Name the branches of inferior mesenteric artery;
Left colic artery, sigmoid artery, superior rectal artery
Name the branches of the anterior division of the internal iliac artery;
8-
Umbilical (gives branch superior vesicle),
Inferior vesical artery, Uterine artery (female), Vaginal artery (female), Middle rectal artery, Internal Pudendal artery,
Obturator artery, Inferior gluteal artery
Superior vesicle artery is branch of umbilical artery or internal iliac artery!
Name the branches of the posterior division of the internal iliac artery;
Superior gluteal artery, Lateral sacral arteries, Iliolumbar artery
Name three important anatomical sites of port-systemic anastomoses;
Superior rectal (portal) + Middle/inferior rectal veins (systemic). Oesophageal vein (portal) + azygous (systemic). Paraumbilical vein (portal) + Superfical epigastric (ststemic)
