Eccymosis (bruising) of flanks- pancreatitis or hemoperitoneum

Ascites- fluid in abdomen- greater than 3 cm shifting
Murphy sign
Cholecystitis- abrupt cessation of inspiration
Fluid wave
Ascites- pt hold at midline, if wave passes through than positive
Rosving Sign
RLQ pain intensified by LLQ and palpation
Psoas sign
Pt flexes against activating psoas- pain in RLQ indicates appendicitis
McBurney Sign
Pain with palpation at point- RLQ midway between umbilicus and iliac spine- appendicitis
Obturator Sign
rotation of obturator muscle- pain in RLQ is +
Rebound tenderness
Pressing in remote area from indicated pain- quick withdrawal on rebound with pain equals peritoneal inflammation
Borborygmi
Auscultated noises due to hyperactive peristalsis
Heel jar test
tip toes to heels- abd pain indicated peritoneal inflammation
hematochezia
fresh, red blood with stool- lower GI bleed
constipation
difficulty emptying bowels- hardened stool
hematemesis
vomiting blood
dysphagia
difficulty swallowing
melena
dark, tarry stools- upper GI bleed
globus
persistant or intermittant nonpainful sensation of lump in throat
nausea
sickness and inclination to vomit
flatus
gas in or from stomach or intestines- bacterial fermentation
vomiting
eject stomach matter through mouth
singultus
hiccup
diarrhea
loose, watery stools at least 3x per day
