abdomen and nerve plxus Flashcards
what is the abdomen
- abdomen wall consist of anterolateral abdominal wall, and posterior abdomen wall
- abdomen cavity
what does the anterolateral wall consist of?
-skin
- subcutaneous tissue (superficial fascia)
- muscles and their apneuroses
- deep fascia
locate the proper four muscles in the anterolateral abdominal wall.
-external oblique
- internal oblique
- transversus abdominis
- rectus abdominis
what is the external oblique?
- largest and most superficial of three lateral muscles
- fibers run inferomedially
what is the origin, insertion, action, innervation of external oblique?
- origin - ribs 5-12
- insertion - linea albea, pubic bone, iliac crest
- action - flexion, rotation, lateral flexion of trunk
- compress and support abdominal viscera
- innervation - intercostal nerves (t7-t12)
what is internal oblique?
fibers run superomedially at right angle to external oblique
what is origin, insertion, action, innervation of internal oblique?
- origin - lumbar fascia, iliac crest, inguinal ligament
- insertion - linea albea, pubic crest, ribs 10-12
- action - compresses and support abdominal viscera, flex and rotate trunk
- innervation - intercostal nerves (t7-12) and L1
what is transversus abdominis?
- Deepest (innermost) muscle of abdominal
wall - Fibers run horizontally
what is origin, insertion, action, innervation of transversus abdominis?
- origin - Inguinal ligament Lumbar fascia, Costal cartilages of ribs 7th- 12th, Iliac crest
- insertion - linea alba, pubic crest
- action - compresses and support abdominal contents
- innervation - intercostal nerves and L1
what is rectus abdominis?
- Vertical muscle of the
abdominal wall - covered by aponeuroses of
lateral muscles = rectus sheath - The two muscles are
separated by linea alba - Extend from pubis to rib cage
- Segmented by tendinous
intersections
what is origin, insertion, action, innervation of rectus abdominis?
origin - pubic bone
- insertion - xiphoid process, costal cartilages of ribs 5-7
- action - Flex trunk and compresses abdominal viscera
- innervation - intercostal nerves (t6-t12)
locate the muscles in posterior abdominal wall
- psoas muscles
- quadratus lumborum
- iliacus
- iliacus pink
- quadratus lumborum green
- psoas muscles red
what is origin, action, innervation, insertion of psoas major? (PURPLE)
origin - Transverse processes and bodies of T12-L5 vertebrae
action - Flexes thigh & vertebral column
innervation - L1-L3 nerves
insertion - Lesser trochanter of femur
what is origin, action, innervation, insertion of psoas minor? (blue)
origin - Bodies of T12 & L1 vertebra
action - Weak flexion of lumbar vertebral column
innervation - Anterior rami of L1
insertion - pubic bone
what is origin, action, innervation, insertion of ilacus?
origin - Iliac fossa and sacrum
innervation - Femoral nerve
insertion - Lesser trochanter of femur
action - Flexes thigh and acts
with psoas major
