ABC’s ( Airway, Breathing, Circulation) Flashcards
ABC’s ( Airway, Breathing, Circulation)
The primary principles in emergency care prioritizing the airway, breathing and circulation of a patient.
Abdominal Trauma
Injury to the abdomen which can affect internal organs
Acetaminophen Toxicity
A potential dangerous level of acetaminophen, often due to overdose, affecting liver functions
Acute Abdomen
A sudden onset of abdominal pain requiring rapid medical evaluation
Acute Coronary Syndrome
A term for conditions caused by decreased blood flow to the heart muscle.
Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome ( ARDS)
A severe lung condition causing shortness of breath and rapid breathing.
Adolescent Depression
A mental health disorder characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and loss of interest in adolescents
Adolescent Medicine Challenges
Issues and complexities in treating medical conditions specific to adolescents.
Adrenal Crisis
An acute life-threatening situation resulting from insufficient cortisol , a hormone produced by the adrenal glands.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Clinical interventions for the urgent treatment of cardiac arrest , stroke, and other life-threatening emergencies.
AED( Automated External Defibrillator)
A portal device that checks heart rhythm and can send an electric shock to restore a normal rhythm
Airway Adjuncts
Tools or devices used to maintain or open a patients airway
Airway Management
Techniques and procedures ensuring open airways for patients.
Alcohol Withdrwal
Symptoms that occur when a person who is dependent on alcohol suddenly stops or reduces intake.

Aneurysm, Abdominal Aortic
An enlargement of the large blood vessel that supplies blood to the admen , pelvis, and legs
Angina Pectoris
Chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart muscles.
Ankle-Brachial Index
A test measuring the ratio of blood pressure in the ankles to the blood pressure in the arms.
Anterior Cord Syndrome
A condition where the front of the spinal cord is damaged, often leading to impaired temperature and pain sensation.
Aortic Dissection
A serious condition where the inner layer of the aorta tears.
Aortic Stenosis
A narrowing of the aortic valve opening restricting blood flow.
Aphasia
A condition affecting the ability to speak, write, or understand language
Appendicitis
Inflammation of the appendix ( RLQ pain)
Arrhythmias
Irregular heartbeats or heart rhythms.
Arterial Blood Gases (ABG)
Blood test from an artery that checks levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other parameters.
Arterial Puncture
A procedure where a needle is inserted into an artery, usually to obtain blood.
Asphyxia
A condition arising when the body is deprived of oxygen, causing unconsciousness or death.
Aspiration
Inhaling foreign objects into the lungs, or drawing out fluid or tissue.
Asthma
A chronic condition characterized by inflamed airways in the lung.
Atrial Fibrillation
An irregular, often rapid heart causing poor blood flow.
Atrial Flutter
A cardiac arrhythmia characterized by rapid heart beats in the atrial of the heart.
