aba terms Flashcards
ABA
A method of applying the principles of behavior in the real world while collecting data on specific behaviors.
The Environment is is modified to encourage appropriate behavior.
quality of life improved
Three Term Contingency
Antecedent
Behavior
Cosequence
Antecedent
A stimulus that happens right before a behavior.
Triggers/cues response
Behavior
Response that happens AFTER a stimulant
Consequence
What happens just after a behavior that affects future responses
Reinforcement
Something that comes AFTER a response and leads to increase in the future frequency of that or related behavior
Punishment
Something that comes AFTER a response and leads to a DECREASE in the future frequency of the behavior
Functions of behavior
why the behavior happens
Positive Reinforcement
The result of something being ADDED immediately after a behavior to gain access to something or attention to someone
Negative Reinforcement
the result of something being REMOVED after a behavior to avoid or escape and unwanted stimulus
Automatic Reinforcement
The result of the behavior that brings a sort of pleasure, no social attention
Proactive Strategies
ways to prevent a problem/unwanted problem
ACES teaches these
Reactive Strategies
ways to react to a problem or unwanted behavior
Differential Reinforcement
Reinforcing desired behaviors while not responding to undesirable or unwanted behavior
Extinction
the absence of reinforcement in order to decrease the frequency of the behavior
Extinction Burst
An initial increase of the frequency of behavior when an extinction procedure is first used
Shaping
Rewarding a client for a good try
Chaining
establishes complex behaviors by linking a series of simpler tasks
Task Analysis
Breaking down a complex behavior into smaller manageable
Prompts
Added cues to encourage specific behavior
Physical Prompts
involves actually touching the client
Verbal Prompt
A verbal instructions or cues
Gestural
using gestures to make it more obvious to respond
Model
Demonstration of appropriate response
Least Intrusive Prompt
the minimal amount of action needed for a client to engage in the desired behavior
Generalization
using learned behavior w/new material, ppl, and setting
Maintenance
Periodically checking previously learned skills
retaining info/skills
