Why is Tiny Tim a significant character?
He is the key to Scrooge’s redemption. He helps Scrooge to realise that the poor are not faceless social problems. He is a metaphor for poverty itself – he cannot thrive without intervention.

It uses dialogue; Demonstrates Tiny Tim’s pure and unselfish spirit. He unwittingly ‘blesses’ Scrooge because he helps him to see the consequences of his selfish actions. ‘Last of all’ – position of poor in society.
Describe the quote; “‘I see a vacant seat’”
It uses dialogue; These words help Scrooge to realise that the poor are real people and he begins to understand the value of charity. Significantly, half of London’s funerals were for children under 10.
Describe the quote: “‘how green a place’”
It uses contrast of setting; Contrasts with the way Scrooge’s grave is described later. Tiny Tim was loved and will be mourned.
Describe the quote; “‘thy childish essence was from God’”
It uses religious reference; Tiny Tim epitomises the Christian values that Dickens was trying to advocate. ‘essence’ – he is goodness in its purest form. His death has a sacrificial function like Jesus. He dies to save Scrooge from sin.
