CONFIDENTIALITY
2.1
DISCLOSING LIMITS OF CONFIDENTIALITY
Therapists disclose at the outset their right to confidentiality, including at what point confidentiality is legally overridden

WRITTEN AUTHORIZATION TO RELEASE CLIENT INFO
Therapists don’t disclose info without written waiver fo confidentiality, or when permitted by law. Verbal authorization NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Even in family therapy, therapist does not disclose an individual’s info to another individual in that client unit

CLIENT ACCESS TO RECORDS
The records are the clients. they have reasonable rights to see them. But for client units, all have to sign a waiver before an individual from that unit sees the records including information about the others. Only conceal records from client when it could hurt the client.

If therapist wants to use client materials in teaching, consulting, research, or public presentations, they must have written consent from the client

If moving, closing, death, etc the therapist arranges for transfer, disposal etc of client records in a way that maintains confidentiality

When consulting with other colleagues, don’t share confidential info that could lead to ID of client or anyone involved in the confidential relationship circle unless written consent
