Aakhira / after-life / end-goal / self-development Flashcards
[Shakir ] O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him.
[Pickthal] Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence).
[Yusufali] O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him.
84:6 - Inshiqaaq
[Shakir] By no means shall you attain to righteousness until you spend (benevolently) out of what you love; and whatever thing you spend, Allah surely knows it.
[Pickthal] Ye will not attain unto piety until ye spend of that which ye love. And whatsoever ye spend, Allah is Aware thereof.
[Yusufali] By no means shall ye attain righteousness unless ye give (freely) of that which ye love; and whatever ye give, of a truth Allah knoweth it well.
3:92 - Ali-Imraan
[Shakir] Those who believe and whose hearts are set at rest by the remembrance of Allah; now surely by Allah’s remembrance are the hearts set at rest.
[Pickthal] Who have believed and whose hearts have rest in the remembrance of Allah. Verily in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest!
[Yusufali] “Those who believe, and whose hearts find satisfaction in the remembrance of Allah: for without doubt in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction.
13:28 - Ar-Ra’d
[Shakir ] And this life of the world is nothing but a sport and a play; and as for the next abode, that most surely is the life– did they but know!
[Pickthal] This life of the world is but a pastime and a game. Lo! the home of the Hereafter - that is Life, if they but knew.
[Yusufali] What is the life of this world but amusement and play? but verily the Home in the Hereafter,- that is life indeed, if they but knew.
29:64 - Al-Ankaboot
[Shakir] And among men is he who says: We believe in Allah; but when he is persecuted in (the way of) Allah he thinks the persecution of men to be as the chastisement of Allah; and if there come assistance from your Lord, they would most certainly say: Surely we were with you. What! is not Allah the best knower of what is in the breasts of mankind.
[Pickthal ] Of mankind is he who saith: We believe in Allah, but, if he be made to suffer for the sake of Allah, he mistaketh the persecution of mankind for Allah’s punishment; and then, if victory cometh from thy Lord, will say: Lo! we were with you (all the while). Is not Allah Best Aware of what is in the bosoms of (His) creatures?
[Yusufali] Then there are among men such as say, “We believe in Allah”; but when they suffer affliction in (the cause of) Allah, they treat men’s oppression as if it were the Wrath of Allah! And if help comes (to thee) from thy Lord, they are sure to say, “We have (always) been with you!” Does not Allah know best all that is in the hearts of all creation?
29:10 - Al Ankaboot
[Shakir] So when they ride in the ships they call upon Allah, being sincerely obedient to Him, but when He brings them safe to the land, lo! they associate others (with Him);
[Pickthal] And when they mount upon the ships they pray to Allah, making their faith pure for Him only, but when He bringeth them safe to land, behold! they ascribe partners (unto Him),
[Yusufali] Now, if they embark on a boat, they call on Allah, making their devotion sincerely (and exclusively) to Him; but when He has delivered them safely to (dry) land, behold, they give a share (of their worship to others)!-
29:65 - Al Ankaboot
[Shakir] And (as for) those who strive hard for Us, We will most certainly guide them in Our ways; and Allah is most surely with the doers of good.
[Pickthal ] As for those who strive in Us, We surely guide them to Our paths, and lo! Allah is with the good.
[Yusufali ] And those who strive in Our (cause),- We will certainly guide them to our Paths: For verily Allah is with those who do right.
29:69 - Al-Ankaboot
[Shakir] They know the outward of this world’s life, but of the hereafter they are absolutely heedless.
[Pickthal] They know only some appearance of the life of the world, and are heedless of the Hereafter.
[Yusufali] They know but the outer (things) in the life of this world: but of the End of things they are heedless
Shakir ] Do they not reflect within themselves: Allah did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them two but with truth, and (for) an appointed term? And most surely most of the people are deniers of the meeting of their Lord.
[Pickthal] Have they not pondered upon themselves? Allah created not the heavens and the earth, and that which is between them, save with truth and for a destined end. But truly many of mankind are disbelievers in the meeting with their Lord.
[Yusufali ] Do they not reflect in their own minds? Not but for just ends and for a term appointed, did Allah create the heavens and the earth, and all between them: yet are there truly many among men who deny the meeting with their Lord (at the Resurrection)!
30:7 Ar-Room
and
30:8 Ar-Room
[Shakir ] Therefore glory be to Allah when you enter upon the time of the evening and when you enter upon the time of the morning.
[Pickthal ] So glory be to Allah when ye enter the night and when ye enter the morning -
[Yusufali] So (give) glory to Allah, when ye reach eventide and when ye rise in the morning;
[Shakir ] And to Him belongs praise in the heavens and the earth, and at nightfall and when you are at midday.
[Pickthal] Unto Him be praise in the heavens and the earth! - and at the sun’s decline and in the noonday.
[Yusufali ] Yea, to Him be praise, in the heavens and on earth; and in the late afternoon and when the day begins to decline.
[Shakir] He brings forth the living from the dead and brings forth the dead from the living, and gives life to the earth after its death, and thus shall you be brought forth.
[Pickthal ] He bringeth forth the living from the dead, and He bringeth forth the dead from the living, and He reviveth the earth after her death. And even so will ye be brought forth.
[Yusufali ] It is He Who brings out the living from the dead, and brings out the dead from the living, and Who gives life to the earth after it is dead: and thus shall ye be brought out (from the dead).
30:17-19 (Ar-Room)
[Shakir] And one of His signs is that He created mates for you from yourselves that you may find rest in them, and He put between you love and compassion; most surely there are signs in this for a people who reflect.
30:21 (Ar-Room)
Help!! (why is God mentioned as the agent here??)
[Shakir] Nay! those who are unjust follow their low desires without any knowledge; so who can guide him whom Allah makes err? And they shall have no helpers.
and
[Shakir ] Thus does Allah set a seal on the hearts of those who do not know.
[Pickthal] Thus doth Allah seal the hearts of those who know not.
[Yusufali ] Thus does Allah seal up the hearts of those who understand not.
and
(30:29 and 30:59)
[Shakir ] For surely you cannot, make the dead to hear and you cannot make the deaf to hear the call, when they turn back and
[Pickthal ] For verily thou (Muhammad) canst not make the dead to hear, nor canst thou make the deaf to hear the call when they have turned to flee.
[Yusufali ] So verily thou canst not make the dead to hear, nor canst thou make the deaf to hear the call, when they show their backs and turn away.
[Shakir ] Nor can you lead away the blind out of their error. You cannot make to hear any but those who believe in Our communications so they shall submit.
[Pickthal ] Nor canst thou guide the blind out of their error. Thou canst make none to hear save those who believe in Our revelations so that they surrender (unto Him).
[Yusufali ] Nor canst thou lead back the blind from their straying: only those wilt thou make to hear, who believe in Our signs and submit (their wills in Islam).
30:52-53 (Ar-Room)
