What are some key intervention strategies -

A

Pre-intentional- singals of accepting/ rejecting (cooing, babbling) aac wise model , wait time

-Intentional but presymbolic gestures- ( gestures, pointing) model gestures, communicate choices, take turns, joint attention,

  • developing early symbolic communication: word or 2-combo, diverse vocab, comment, request, answer simple? s, (someone with downs begin using pictures, or gestures)
  • Learning to combine symbols—2- or 3-word phrases—move to more details, request attention, have more complex language.

  1. model the behavior
  2. choose one person to teach aac device.
  3. ask them to pause- pause observe and reflect
  4. talk to their client and provide multiple models. They can introduce new words!
