Little Rock 1957 – sent federal troops to break the protest
Civil Rights Act 1957 – investigation in fields such as voting obstruction
Brown V Board of education 1954 ordered the desegregation of schools
Civil Rights Act 1960 – renewed the civil rights commission, allowed judges to make special appointments of those that would help blacks on to the voting register

A

Civil Rights Act 1964 – prohibited discrimination on the grounds of race, colour, religion, sex or national origin

A

1969 Philadelphia plan – contractors set targets for hiring people from minorities
Green v. Connally 1970 – made it clear that federal funds would be withheld from higher education institutions that continued to have a policy of segregation
ROAR campaign – restore our alienated rights a movement set up by white parents in Boston to stop bussing, was backed by Nixon

Name a Civil Rights Act which Reagan passed?

A

Civil Rights Restoration Act - congress overruled Reagans veto, ensured that federal funds going to companies working towards civil rights were really going to companies that would use it for such purposes.
