What is the definition of clinical settings?
Anywhere that medical and or nursing care takes place
Example a Hospital,Dentist and Care Home.
In healthcare what does a scientific setting refer to ?
Any setting where health care scientists work to improve the health and wellbeing of patients and the public.
Healthcare Sciences into 4 categories
• Laboratory (pathology) sciences (phlebotomy which is taking out blood)
• Physiological sciences (audiology)
• Medical physics and clinical engineering (radiology)
• Bioinformation e.g ICT services

What does SOP stand for?
Standard Operation Procedure
The definition of SOP?
A set of sequential steps or institutions designed to standardise the approach to a process or action.
Examples of SOP’s
Incident report, cause of death, handwashing, anaesthetic, cleaning, fire drill and documents
Why is it important for everyone to follow SOP’s?
Maintaining health and safety
Enabling consistency of approach
Meeting any legal or organisational requirements
Upholding professional standards
Demonstrating compliance for audit purposes
What does audit mean?
Audit means a check on if staff are doing their procedures.
