A220- Engines, APU Flashcards
What engines is the A220 equipped with?
The A220 aircraft is equipped with Pratt and Whitney PW1500G series turbofan engines.
What does the Electronic Engine Control of the FADEC do?
Manages all aspects of engine operation.
The EEC schedules engine thrust in response to
thrust lever angle, aircraft input, and engine
sensor input. It protects engine N1 and N2
operating limits, as well as exhaust gas
temperature limits.
When does the FADEC enter
synchronization mode?
: In all CLB thrust rating modes, the FADEC enters
synchronization mode and N1 rpms are matched. This reduces
cabin noise and airframe vibration. The SYNC icon displays below
the N1 indications on the EICAS.
When does the EEC reduce maximum power available from MTO to MCT?
The EEC reduces the maximum power available from MTO to MCT after 5 minutes
or after 10 minutes with an engine inoperative.
What are the five different idle settings?
o Ground Idle o Reverse Idle o Flight Idle o Approach Idle o Steep approach Idle
What is the purpose of the Thrust Limitation at Low Speed (TLLS) feature?
Thrust Limitation at Low Speed ensures
that the nose landing gear is sufficiently
loaded during the takeoff roll.
Thrust Limitation at Low Speed (TLLS) feature Initially, the FADEC limits engine thrust to
________% of takeoff power. As the aircraft
accelerates, thrust increases with
airspeed until it reaches full takeoff
power at ________ knots.
o 60%
o 80 knots
FLEX performance is only available when the assumed temperature is _______°C higher than OAT
- 5 °C
What are the 3 The TO THRUST settings?
o TO — Provides maximum engine thrust.
o TO‐1 — Reduces maximum thrust by 10%.
o TO‐2 — Reduces maximum thrust by 20%.
What are the 3 CLB THRUST settings?
o CLB — Provides maximum climb thrust.
o CLB‐1 — Reduces maximum climb thrust by 5%.
o CLB‐2 — Reduces maximum climb thrust by 10%
During an engine failure on take off, what does the Automatic Power Reserve (APR) function do?
In the event of an engine failure in the takeoff phase, automatic power reserve selects the next
higher TO THRUST setting on the operating engine without pilot intervention. If selected, FLEX
power is cancelled.
When does the FADEC command both ignition systems on?
o A second start attempt is required on the ground.
o An in‐flight engine start is attempted.
o During takeoff and landing.
o Cowl anti‐ice is turned on.
o An engine surge or flameout is detected by the FADEC.
Above approximately_______ N2 on the ground the start must be aborted manually by selecting the respective L ENG or R ENG switch to OFF.
o50% N2
Following an automatic ground start abort, an automatic engine motoring
period of _______ seconds clears fuel vapor and cools the engine components. Following the engine motoring, one automatic engine restart is attempted.
o30 seconds
How is fuel provided to the APU?
Fuel to the APU is normally fed from the left collector tank through the left engine feed line and
the APU fuel shutoff valve.
