A2 Flashcards
blood is composed of
55% plasma, RBC 45%, WBC + platelets 1%
RBC
no nucleus, 120days, hemoglobin, iron, carries o2 -> tissue
WBC
have nucelus, engulf invading cells through phagocutosis, some make antibodies, remember virus
platelets
small & fragile, have specialized proteins, initiate clotting and join with calcium in plasma
1st line defense
skin, digestive system, gas exchange, urinary system
2nd line defense
inflammation and anti body production
antibodies
2nd line of defensem produced by lymphocytes, to immobolize bacteria for it to be engulfed
antigens
used for recognition and to fight infections, produce antibodies
macrophages
phagocytes, engulf foriegn invaders and present antigens
helper t cells
produce b cells and killer t cells and maximize the funtion of macrophages, + tell b cells to make antibodies
killer T cells
cell mediated response, kill infected somatic cells
memoery T & B cells
remember infection and speed up immune for secondary infection
HIV virus
HIV sheds its coating, enters a helper T cell, and is engulfed, allowing the virus to infect the white blood cell.
autoimmune disease
body produces antibodies against the bodies own cells
