A106 Flashcards
What color lights are white?
Runway lights
What lights are colored blue?
Taxi lights
What do hazard lights look like?
Red or strobe white
What are conditions if a beacon is used during the day?
Ground visibility is less than 3 sm and/or the ceiling is less than 1000 feet. (These conditions prohibit VFR flight)
When do beacon lights operate under normal conditions?
Sunset to sunrise
What color are beacon lights at civil airports?
Rotating green and white
What do beacon lights look like at military airfields?
Two white lights alternating with a green light
What does a steady green light gun signal mean?
Ground—cleared for takeoff
Air—cleared to land
What does a flashing green light gun signal mean?
Ground—cleared for taxi
Air—return for landing (followed by a steady green)
What does a steady red light gun signal mean?
Ground—stop
Air—give way to other aircraft and continue circling
What does a flashing red light gun signal mean?
Ground—taxi clear of the runway in use
Air—airport unsafe, do not land
What does a flashing white light gun signal mean?
Ground—return to starting point on airport
Air—not applicable
What does an alternating red and green light gun signal mean?
Ground—exercise extreme caution
Air—exercise extreme caution
What is a Notam d?
Distant. Coordinated by the airport for advisory purposes
Contain info concerning the establishment, condition, or change in any:
- aeronautical facility
- en route NAVAIDS
- services
- procedures
- hazards
Ex: runway closure or obstruction
What is an FDC NOTAM?
Flight Data Center—regulatory in nature
Changes to IFR charts
IFR procedures
Airspace usage
Ex: changes to an instrument approach procedure or airway; or temporary flight restrictions
What is proper spacing for large aircraft according to the syllabus?
No closer than 3000 ft horizontally or 3 minutes behind large/heavy aircraft
According to the syllabus, what is the airspeed limits
+/- 10 KIAS
When within 4NM of the primary airport in class C or D airspace, what must your speed be at or below?
200kts max, or below 2500’ AGL
What is the max speed when flying under class B airspace?
200kts
When flying over a congested area, what precautions should you take?
1000ft above the highest obstacle, horizontal radius of 2000ft
What precautions should you take in an uncongested area?
500ft above the surface
What precautions should you take over sparsely populated areas or open water?
500ft of any person, vessel, vehicle, or structure
What aircraft documents are required to be on board while operating an aircraft?
Airworthiness certificate, registration certificate, operating limitations, weight and balance data (AROW)
What are the AGL heights for Class C airspace?
Surface to 4000, 1200-4000 AGL
How high does class D airspace go?
Surface to 2500
What are the four special use airspace categories?
Prohibited areas
Restricted areas
Military operation areas
Alert areas
What is a restricted area?
Denote existence of unusual, often invisible hazards (artillery firing, aerial, gunnery, or guided missiles
What is the purpose of a Military Operating Area?
Separates military training activity from IFR traffic
There is no restriction for VFR flying in an MOA—just be cautious
Where can you find information on MOA operating times?
In the Special Use Airspace table
