A102 Flashcards
How are the 4 cylinders in the engine oriented?
Horizontally opposed
Which flight instruments receive input from the pitot-static system?
Airspeed indicator, altimeter, and vertical speed indicator
This engine instrument obtains its data from the left rear exhaust pipe of the engine.
Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT)
What are the three primary controls of flight?
Ailerons, elevator, and rudder
Name the ten flight instruments
Magnetic compass Vacuum gauge Engine tachometer (RPM) Airspeed indicator Attitude indicator Altimeter Course Deviation Indicator Turn coordinator (step on the ball) Heading indicator Vertical speed indicator
What are the components of the DA-20 oil system?
One engine-driven oil pump and an oil cooler, which cools the oil once the vernatherm begins to close
The DA-20 ignition system is powered by _______ magnetos which provide electrical energy to _______ spark plugs per engine cylinder
Two; two
The DA-20 has _____ latch handles for the canopy that lock when in the __________ position.
Two; forward and down
What part of the DA-20 fuselage helps provide fire protection between the engine and the cockpit?
A fire wall that’s covered in a ceramic fiber
What is the minimum oil pressure?
10psi
The DA-20 brake system has the following components:
Used hydraulic brake fluid and has two fluid reservoirs behind the student rudder pedals
Before flying The DA-20, you must take fuel samples from where?
Two drains; one is a black tube (gascolator) and the other is a brass tube (bottom of the fuel tank)

What is the purpose of the oil system?
To cool, clean, lubricate, and seal the engine
What is the oil system process?
- Engine-driven oil pump pumps the oil from the oil sump (bottom of the engine) up to the oil filter
- Filter filters oil
- If oil is cool, flows through the vernatherm; if oil hot, flows to oil cooler
- Flows to engine & does its job at the engine
- Collects at oil sump and begins again
Describe the fuel system process.
- Fuel leaves tank, passes maintenance fuel drains and gascolator (filter) to Dukes electric fuel pump.
- Electric fuel pump provides positive pressure and allows fuel to flow to the fuel shutoff valve, past the firewall to the engine driven fuel pump.
- Engine driven fuel pump provides positive pressure to the fuel control unit
- Fuel control unit (controlled by throttle) measures out fuel and it goes to the fuel distribution manifold
- Fuel distribution manifold distributes it through the four fuel injector nozzles, one for each cylinder
When does the alternator/generator act as the normal source of power?
When the engine is running
When is the battery the source of power?
When alternator is inop (prior to engine start or after alternator failure)
Where is the pitot and what flight instruments does it support?
Bottom of left wing.
Airspeed, altimeter, vertical speed indicator, transponder mode c
Which flight instruments require the vacuum pump?
Attitude indicator and heading indicator (vacuum spins a gyro)
Which instruments function off a gyro?
Heading indicator, attitude indicator, turn coordinator
