A1 Nervous System Flashcards
nervous system
-takes in sensory info
-sends signals to right effectors
CNS
brain + spinal
PNS
- all nerves outside CNS
- senstory info to CNS
-motor info from CNS
Sensory neuron
sends impulses from receptors to CNS
Motor neuron
Carry impulses from CNS to effectors (muscles/glands)
interneauron
In CNS, connects sensory & motor neaurons
myelin sheath
insulator made by schwann cells, protect + support neauron
schwann cells
produce myelin
nodes of ranvier
help impulses move faster
nerve cell
impulses from receptors, interpret then send instructions to glands and muscles
effectors
glands or muscles that respond to impulses
resting potention
more K inside, more Na outside
depolarization
Na channels open, inside becomes more positive bc Na moves in
repolarization
Na channels close, K channels open, K leaves, inside becomes more negative
refractory period - hyperpolarization
K gates close slowly as it tries to go back to resting potention
