A04: Macbeth’s Jealousy
Jealousy in Macbeth drives characters to destructive actions, Macbeths envy of Banquo’s progeny, paranoia toward anyone threatening his power, leading him to murder, and his ultimate demise, same in Othello.
A05: “The essential traitor is within the gates.”
Suggesting that Othello’s downfall is caused by his own inner weaknesses rather than just Iago’s manipulation.
Jealousy is already within Othello, Iago only wakens it.
Challenges idea of Othello being a victim, implying that he is responsible for his own destruction.
A05: Psychoanalytical criticism
Psychologically been conditioned to have a victim mindset so it was not hard to have that mindset as it is engrained into society in the Jacobean, Venetian society.
