Q

What do you….what do you want now?

A

What do you want from me? They’re moved out; what do you want now?

Beatrice is tired of Eddie and his persistant toward gaining Catheriene back through blood and violence. However, another perspective would be Beatrice wants an answer from Eddie when is he going to pick her over other events. Beatrice has been suffering and patient through out the play for Eddie picking her over Catheriene. She has the identity of Eddie’s wife but ironically never have been treated as a wife. At the end, Eddie brutelly responded with the quote “I want my respect!” that hinted tradegy is unescapable toward the auidence.

Q

I want my respect ….. From my wife?

A

I want my respect. Didn’t you ever hear of that? From my wife?

Beatrice has planned on attending Catheriene’s wedding. However, Eddie refuses to attend and further limits Beatrice’s freedom. Beatrice is confused and tired of Eddie’s act. Thus, she asked once again Eddie what he wants. However, Eddie stubbornly replies with the same answer “I want my respect”. Furthermore, he ironic doubts whether Beatrice is his wife when he has never treated her as one. This event from between Beatrice and Eddie hints Eddie is forever alone because Beatirce being the last and most bonded realtionship with Eddie has been lost in the mist.

Q

Don’t you call him that!

A

Don’t you call him that!

From the start till end of the play, Beatrice has been relatively natural. The author has repeatively hinted toward Beatrice loves Eddie but she never acts. Before Eddie’s death, she has finally picked her side while perceiving the future ahead. She regrets her act and chose to be with Eddie. This is supported from not attending Catheriene’s wedding.

Q

You’re an …..God will bless you

A

You’re an angle! God will bless you.

This quote is from Eddie allowing Beatrice’s illegal immigrants cousins living in. The term “angle” is ironic with Eddie’s self centered personality. The diction “God” is ironic also when there can be no interference from the external force at the brooklyn bridge. The terminology “bless” is linked with Beatrice when her name has a hidden meaning of “blessing”.

The exclamination mark implies she is speaking with real passion and shows how excited she actually is. The passion hints her naive and believes Eddie is actually an angel.
