Composition
The arrangement of parts of a picture within the frame is referred to as a composition (ex. Straight lines masculine, curvy feminine, horizontal restful, vertical awe inspiring, and horizontal action/dynamism).
Planes of Focus
What is in focus.
Deep mean everything is clear
Limited means front objects are clear
Sequence
A series of scenes complete in themselves but shown together related by theme, plot, or setting.
Camera angles meanings
Low angle: subject is superior
High angle: subject is inferior
Dutch/oblique (angled): puts audience in edge
Medium: most shots
Camera movements
Dolly: camera rolls torwards/away subject
Tracking: variation of dolly
Boom shot: movement up or down of camera and tripod
Lighting
High key: brightly lit
Low key: uses shadows to create an atmosphere of mystery
Backlighting: light behind subject. Creates suspense, curiosity, fear
Speech
Voice of god commentary: text by unseen narrator
Voice over: spoken commentary dubbed over soundtrack
Voice over narration: thoughts
Sound effects
Ambient: sound recorded on location
Manipulated: edited in
