Stella: “she’s soaking in a hot tub to quiet her nerves.” “Tell her she’s looking wonderful. That’s important to Blanche. Her little weakness!”

Stanley: “nobody’s going to get up so dont be worried”
Staging: ‘she takes off her blouse and stands in her pink silk brassiere and a white shirt in the light through the portières.’
Blanche: “I can’t stand a naked light bulb any more than I can a rude remark or a vulgar action.”
Scene 4
Blanche: “he acts like an animal” and “has animal habits”.
Staging: ‘Stella has embraced him with both arms, fiercely and in full view of Blanche. He laughs and claps her head to him. Over her head he grins through the curtains as Blanche.”
Scene 6
Staging: ‘A locomotive is heard approaching outside. She claps her hands to her ears and crouches over. The headlight of the locomotive glares into the room as it thunders past.’
Scene 7
Staging: ‘Blanche is singing int he bathroom, a saccharine popular ballad, which is used contrapuntally with Stanley’s speech’.
Blanche sings ‘Paper Moon’: “but it wouldn’t be make believe, if you believed in me”
Stanley: “well he’s not going to marry her. Maybe he was, but he’s not going to jump in a tank with a school of sharks.”
Scene 9
Staging: ‘she offers him her lips. He ignores it and pushes past her into the flat. She looks fearfully after him as he stalks into the bedroom.’
Blanche: “I don’t want realism” “I’ll tell you what I want. Magic!”
Scene 10
Staging: ‘Blanche has been drinking fairly heavily since Mitch left’.
Stanley: “we’ve had this date with eachother from the beginning”
Staging: ‘ she moans. The bottle top falls. She sinks to her knees. He picks up her inert figure and carries her to the bed.’
Scene 11
Staging: ‘Sound of water can be heard running in the bathroom’
Blanche: “is it the gentleman I was expecting from Dallas?”
Blanche: “I have always depended on the kindness of strangers.”
