“[Polka music sounds, in a minor key faint with distance] We danced the Varsouviana!…A few moments later – a shot! {The polka stops abruptly].”

“[He tears the paper lantern off the light bulb. She utters a frightened gasp]…”So I can take a look at you good and plain.”

“[He crosses to dressing table and seizes the paper lantern, tearing it off the light bulb, and extends it toward her. She cries out as if the lantern was herself.]”
