Mission Planning Types
Mission Plan/Fly–Mission planning is held the duty day prior to execution. Most stateside training sorties follow this profile.
Same Day Mission Planning–Mission planning and mission/flight occur on the same day. The preferred profile for pilot proficiency sorties.
Show and Go–Show and go profile missions are planned by a mission planning team/cell (MPT/C) not by the crew executing/flying the mission. This profile will not be used for initial qualification training. It is the preferred profile for real world operations.
Mission Debrief
The mission debrief highlights any lessons learned from the mission and goes through crew coordination to determine what worked and what didn’t and how to make each follow on mission better.
OPLAN ANNEXES
Operations Annex , the Intelligence Annex , and the Communications Annex
Intelligence Annex provides specific details on such things as opposing forces:
Air
Ground
Naval
OPORD
When units receive notification that an OPLAN is activated, units tasked to support the OPLAN implement the applicable OPORD. An OPORD will specify requirements such as:
Time and place of deployment
Coverage amounts
Objectives
OPLANs are used as a source to develop OPORDs which in turn are used to develop ATOs
