Redlining
In united states, redlining is a racist practice in witch services (financial and otherwise) are withheld from people who live in poor neighborhoods ; these people largely belong to racial and ethnic minorities.
Left Wing
The liberal, socialist, or radical section of a political party or system. left-wing politics typically involve a concern for the ¨underdogs¨ in society, people perceive as disadvantaged relative to others.
The Great Migration
The great migration was one of the largest movements of people in the united states history. Approximately six million black people moved from American south to northern, Midwestern, And western states roughly from the 1910s until 1970s.
Stigmatize
To label somebody or something socially unacceptable.
Oppression
is prolonged or cruel or unjust treatment or control.
Internalized Oppression
is the acceptance by members of stigmatized racs of negative messages about their own abilities and worth, characterized by their not believing in themself or others who look like them.
Stereotype
is a widely held (many people tend to believe an idea) but oversimplified or degrading image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.
Minstrel Shows
were a type of stage entertainment featuring songs, dances, and formulaic comic routines based on stereotypes depictions of black Americans and typically performed by white actors with blackened faces. It developed in the US in the early and mid 19th century and was widely performed until the mid 20th century but now regarded as highly offensive.
Segregation
The enforced separation of difference racial groups in a country, community, or establishment.
Marginalization
involves people being denied degrees of power. Marginalization has the potential to result in severe material deprivation, and in the most extreme form can exterminate groups of people who do not have economic, social, political power within a society.
Self-degradation
is defined as the state of being lowered down in respect, status or condition. When a person has become disrespected and is looked down upon, this is an example of degradation. Self-degradation is looking down upon oneself (self hate)
Systematic Oppression
is defined as the lack of access to goods, services and opportunities of society. It is the unjust exercise of authority and power by one group over another. It includes imposir one group’s belief system, value, and life way over another group.
