Indestructible
Definition: Not able to be destroyed
Example: No matter how hard the kids tried to break the toy, they couldn’t; it was indestructible.
Undistinguished
Definition: Lacking distinction; unexceptionable
Example: The actress never made it to Broadway, her work remained undistinguished.
Pretenses
Definition: The attempt to make something that is not the case appear true.
Example: The boys tried to keep the pretense up that they weren’t the ones who pulled the fire alarm, even though they were.
Stupor
Definition: a state of near-unconsciousness or insensibility.
Example: Sofia hung up the phone, feeling as if she were emerging from a stupor for the first time in months.
Disheveled
Definition: (of a person’s hair, clothes, or appearance) untidy; disordered.
Example: Stephanie showed up to school looking disheveled because she slept through her alarm.
Erratic
Definition: not even or regular in pattern or movement; unpredictable.
Example: Jayson can be very erratic; one day he is friendly and the next he’ll barely speak to you
Indictment
Definition: a formal charge or accusation of a serious crime.
Example: On Friday a grand jury officially gave indictments to Miller on two charges of attempted second degree murder.
Indifference
Definition: Lack of interest, concern or sympathy
Example: He treated the matter with indifference, showing that he really didn’t care.
Viciously
Definition: In a cruel or violent manner.
Example: The family’s dog viciously attacked the intruder.
Mechanically
Definition: without thought or spontaneity; automatically.
Example: After studying all night for her vocabulary quiz, Sierra was able to repeat the words mechanically.
Conspicuously
Definition: In a way that attracts notice or attention
Example: Alia showed up to her date with conspicuously styled hair.
Sullen
Definition: Bad tempered and sulky; gloomy
Example: Ana remained sullen for 6 months until her husband returned from his deployment in the Army.
Vindicated
Definition: To clear someone of blame or suspicion
Example: The witness of the crime completely vindicated the man who claimed he was being falsely accused.
Rigidity
Definition: inability to be changed or adapted.
Example: The rigidity of Park Elementary school’s rules does not allow students to wear anything but their uniforms.
