A&P I Flashcards
Anatomy
Study of structure and form
Physiology
Study of function of the body parts
Anatomy means to
cut apart or dissect. & examine the relationships among parts of the body.
Physiology means to
examine how organs and body systems function under normal circumstances, or w/ medication & disease.
Scientific Method
1) Examine
2)Develop hypothesis
3)Experiment/test
4)Data analysis
5)Reject or Modify(conclusion
Microscopic Anatomy
Examines structures that can not be seen by the unaided eye.
2 Main divisions of microscopy anatomy
Cytology & Histology
Cytology (cellular anatomy)
study of body cells and their internal surface.
Histology
study of body tissues.
Gross anatomy (macroscopic)
Investigates the structure and relationship of body parts that are visible to the unaided eye.
Examples of gross anatomy
intestines, stomach, brain, heart and kidneys.
What happens in macroscopic investigations?
Specimens or their parts are often dissected for examination.
Systematic Anatomy
studies the anatomy of each functional body system.
Regional Anatomy
Examines all of the structures in a particular region of the body as a complete unit.
Surface Anatomy
Focuses on both superficial anatomic markings and the internal body structures that relate to the skin covering them.
