Which CNs attach to the forebrain?
I and II
Where do the rest of the CNs attach?
Descending order down the brainstem
How are the CN numbered?
From most rostral to most caudal
Is olfactory sensory or motor?
Sensory
Where do the olfactory tracts run through?
The nasal mucosa and synapse with the olfactory bulbs through the cribiform plate
Is the optic nerve sensory or motor?
Sensory
Where does II carry impulses to and from?
From the eye to the optic cortex via the optic tract
What measures visual acuity?
Snellen Test
Where do the optic fibers arise?
Retina
What do optic nerves converge to create? Where do these tracts enter?
Optic chiasma, where they cross and continue as tracts and enter the thalamus
Is CN III sensory or motor?
Motor
What does CN III do to the eyelid?
Opens it
What extraoccular muscles does CN III innervate?
Superior rectus
Inferior rectus
Medial rectus
Inferior oblique
What do parasympathetic fibers do to the eye?
Pupil constriction, controls lens shape for focusing
Is CN IV sensory or motor?
Motor
What extraocular muscle does CN IV innervate?
Superior oblique
Is the trigemial nerve sensory or motor?
Mixed
