A Lost Doctrine; Principles that Build upon Each Other JFMcC Flashcards
They have taken away from the gospel of the Lamb many parts which are plain and most precious; and also many covenants of the Lord have they taken away.
1 Nephi 13:26
Nephi spoke of a great and abominable church that would take “away from the gospel of the Lamb many parts which are plain and precious”; and, he added, “many covenants of the Lord have they taken away”.
1 Nephi 13:26
Because of those plain and precious things that were taken from the book, Nephi said, an “exceedingly great many” would stumble, and Satan would have “great power over them”.
1 Nephi 13:29
“From sundry revelations which had been received, it was apparent that many important points touching the salvation of man, had been taken from the Bible, or lost before it was compiled”.
History of the Church, 1:245
“The teachers of religion of the different sects understood the same passages of scripture so differently as to destroy all confidence in settling the question by an appeal to the Bible”.
Joseph Smith History 1:12
To take from the people of God a knowledge of those covenants would to be to take that which in the system of teaching the gospel is the most plain and most precious – the ordinances and promises of salvation. To lose such knowledge is to lose both root and branch, to lose one’s spiritual mornings, to be driven with the wind and tossed, to be as a man without a country, without a family, and without a destiny. Without this knowledge our lives are, as Malachi said, “cursed”, or as Moroni put it, “utterly wasted “
Malachi 4:5-6; D&C 2:3
“The question might be asked, have men authority to administer in the name of Christ, who deny revelations, when His testimony is, no less than the spirit of prophecy, and His religion based, built, and sustained by immediate revelations, in all ages of the world when He has had a people on earth?”
