A level 2021 Flashcards
1
Q
Outline the role of waves in the transportation of sediments at the coast. (4 marks)
A
- Constructive waves bring sediment on the beach. This is due to the low energy wave.
- Destructive waves remove sedimnet from beaches and coastlines. They have a powerful backwash, high frequency and greater wave height.
2
Q
Using Figure 6 and your own knowledge, assess the relative importance of factors leading to the development of this landform. (6 marks)
A
- Figure 6 shows the Spurn Head spit
- There is already sediment, provided by boulder clay of the Holderness coastline. Longshore drift and changing direction of coastline push sediment into the Humber estuary.
- The recurved head has formed due to wave refraction
- In terms of importance, supply of sediment and longshore drift is the most important
