-rural to urban migration: mainly for economic reasons as push factors influence people to leave rural areas and pull factors influence people to urban areas
-natural increase: urban areas tend to attract young people, therefore the natural increase is generally higher in urban areas than rural ones

causes of the growth of megacities
-migration: young migrants migrate from countries because of pull factors, like jobs and better education
-location: historically, cities have formed over transport groups where trade can thrive (e.g. rivers) many of the worlds megacities are ports
-natural increase: cities tend to have much better healthcare so death rates are lower
-economic development: economic growth creates jobs, which attract people and it’s people who bring enterprise
