Dickens wanted to raise the question: who is responsible for looking after the poor in society? He also wanted to show that uncharitable spirit leads to loneliness while a charitable spirit leads to fulfilment.

How does dickens present poverty in a Christmas Carol through Bob Cratchit

A

Poverty is represented by the character Cratchit who is Scrooge’s clerk. He symbolises their two classes through the motif of coal. Scrooge gets as much coal as he likes and gets the bucket to “top it up,” but Cratchit only gets “one piece” and daren’t ask for another in case he gets fired.

Mr Fezziwig in a Christmas Carol

A

Fezziwig, fictional character, the generous employer of the young Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol (1843) by Charles Dickens. Fezziwig appears early in the story, during Scrooge’s encounter with the Ghost of Christmas Past. He is involved in a part of Scrooges live with Scrooges happier and more generous, cheerful person, he helps show the audience what Scrooge could be like and the potential Scrooge has.
