People chose location for an advantage, eg water or easy to defend. Over time these settlements grew to form villages and towns

What areas do nucleated settlements generally avoid and where are most nucleated settlements found
Nucleated settlements avoid upland areas. Many towns are found in river valleys and crossing points. Fertile land also attracts nucleated settlements.
