Main types of lipids

A

Phospholipids: Membrane, Organelles and Signalling.
Steroid Hormones: Sexual development, reproduction, mineral balance.
Cholesterol: Membrane fluidity and lipid formation.
Fatty Acids: Insulation and Cushion.
Eicosanoids: Signals that regulate Blood Pressure, pH, Pain, Inflammation and labor.

Fatty Acid Notation

A
A:B^∆C
A = Number of Carbons (not including alpha carbon)
B = Number of double bonds
C = Carbon # closest to alpha carbon.
* ω is used to denote last double bond
Ex: Linoleic Acid 18:2^Δ9, 12
