9. Mendelian Genetics Flashcards
1
Q
What is simple dominance?
A
When one allele (the dominant allele) of a gene completely hides the expression of the second allele (the recessive allele)
2
Q
What is incomplete dominance?
A
- Neither allele is dominant
- e.g. red flower and white flower = pink flower
3
Q
What is codominance?
A
- Both dominant allele
- e.g. red flower and white flower = flower with red and white streaks
4
Q
What is autosomal hierarchical dominance?
A
- 1 > 2 > 3 or R > B > G
- 1,1 or RR
- 2,2 or BB
- 3,3 or GG
- 1,2 or RB
- 2,3 or BG
- 1,3 or RG
5
Q
What is X-linked hierarchical dominance?
A
- Red: X1X1, X1X2, X1X3, X1Y
- Blue: X2X2, X2X3, X2Y
- Green: X3X3, X3Y
6
Q
What is autosomal circular dominance?
A
- red (1), blue (2), green (3)
- 1 > 2 > 3 > 1
- Red: 1,1 or 1,2
- Blue: 2,2 or 2,3
- Green: 3,3 or 1,3
