Atmosphere
The envelope of gasses that surround earth.
Contour Map
A map that shows elevations of the surface it depicts.
Field
Any region of space that has some measurable value at every point in that region.
Gradient
The rate of change from location to location within a field.
Hydrosphere
All of the water that rests on and in the lithosphere.
Isoline
A line used on a model of a field such as a map that connects points.
Latitude
Angular distance north or south of the equator.
Lithosphere
The rigid crust and uppermost part of the mantel.
Longitude
Angular distance east or west of the prime meridian.
Meridian
Imaginary semicircles on earth’s surface representing longitude which converge at the poles.
Polaris
The north star, which is located almost directly above earth’s geographic north pole.
Prime Meridian
The reference line for longitude, which passes through Greenwich England.
Profile
A side view of Earth’s surface.
Slope
The inclined surface of a land feature.
