Know your linking verbs
am, is, are, was, were, be, being, been
have, has, had, do, does, did, shall, will, should, would, may, might, must, can, could
Know how to form the principle parts of verbs.
Look it up!
Know the principle parts of the verbs to lie and to lay.
lie - lying, lay, have lain
lay - laying, laid, have laid (requires an object)
Know the difference between active and passive voice verbs.
Both are action verbs.
Active voice = there is a direct object that is receiving the action of the verb
Passive voice = the subject is receiving the action of the verb
Know what a verbal is and how to locate them in sentences.
Verbal = a verb form used as another part of speech.
To + verb = infinitive used as another part of speech
Verbs that end in -ing can be used as subjects and are called Gerunds.
Verbs that end in d, ed, t, en, or n can be used as adjectives, which are called Participles.
Know the verb tenses and how they are formed.
Present, Past, Future, Present Perfect, Past Perfect, Future Perfect
Review capitalization and punctuation rules.
