Authority:
- Commanders at various organizational levels

Eligibility:
- SSgt-TSgt

Basis for Promotion:

• Compelling, not quantifiable reasons
• Not just isolated acts/specific achievements
• Unique circumstances
• Clearly warranted

Senior Airman Below the Zone (BTZ)

Definition:
- A1Cs compete for early advancement to SrA

Policies:

• SrA must serve 6 months time in grade to promote to SSgt
• Consideration starts the month prior to the quarter they are eligible

Board Schedule:

• December, March, June, or Sept
• Jan, March, April-June, July-Sept, or Oct-Dec

Promotion Effective Date:
- 6 months prior to their sew-on date

• Amn test after initial selects have been made
• SSgt-SMSgt compete monthly for promotion

Eligibility:

• Unable to test during normal testing window
• Weighable data changes in Amn’s promotion file
