What is protein needed for?
To make new cells to help us grow and to repair our bodies.
What are vitamins and minerals for?
They help to keep our bodies healthy.
Where is saliva produced?
In the salivary glands.
What is the gut?
A tube made up of different organs which is where digestion happens.
What is faeces?
A material stored in the rectum which is what is left of fibre after going through he large intestine.
What is the job of the small intestine?
Small molecules are taken into the body (absorbed) through the wall of the small intestine.
What is an enzyme?
A chemical that can break up large molecules.
Why do enzymes need to break apart larger molecules?
To make the food soluble.
What is starch digested into?
Glucose
What is emulsion?
Two liquids mixed together; one forming small blobs in the other.
What is digestion?
Digestion breaks down insoluble substances into smaller soluble ones.
What are villi?
Small finger-like parts of the wall of the small intestine. They increase the surface area so that digested food is absorbed more quickly.
What is the difference between arteries and veins?
Arteries are loos vessels coming from the heart. Veins are blood vessels going to the heart.
