Fission
A
Occurs when a large nucleus is split into two daughter nuclei. Can be accomplished by colliding the large particle with a neutron. Some of the large nucleus is converted from mass into energy.

Fusion
A
The combination of small atomic nuclei to make a heavier element. Energy is released due to the binding energy per nucleon being greater than that of the original nuclei. Nuclear fusion is the reaction that powers the sun, stars, and hydrogen bombs.
