802.11 MAC Operations Flashcards
To learn about 802.11 MAC Operations with respect to CWNA certification
MSDU’s are included in what kind of frames in 802.11 ?
MSDU (MAC Service Data Units) are included in all wireless frames that carry upper layer data; they are not included in 802.11 management frames as there is no upper layer data to transfer.
What are Service Data Units (SDUs) with respect to 802.11?
Service Data Unit (SDU) - According to OSI, a service data unit is a unit of data that has been passed down from an OSI layer or sublayer to a lower layer. This unit of data has not yet been encapsulated into a protocol data unit (PDU)
What is the name of the service data unit that is received from the upper layers (OSI layer 7-3 via the LLC sublayer) to be managed and transmitted by the lower layers (OSI layer 2-1)
MAC Service Data Unit (MSDU) is the data accepted by MAC layer to be transmitted to the MAC layer of another station on the network.
What is the name of the service data unit that which the Physical Layer Convergence Protocol (PLCP) receives from the MAC sub layer ?
PLCP Service Data Unit (PSDU) is that which the PLCP receives from the MAC sublayer. While the MAC sublayer calls it the MPDU, the physical layer references the same object as the PSDU.
What is PPDU in 802.11 ?
PLCP protocol data unit is that which the PMD (Physical Medium Dependent) receives from the PLCP. The PPDU is that which is transmitted on the RF medium.
